Audio Assignment

The idea for this audio came from idea that I like the public rants of official individuals on the news. Sports especially are a good area for this kind of emotional outbreaks to happen. This particular rant was from the Oklahoma State head football coach Mike Gundy. In 2007 Gundy made comments that became the subject of a nationwide media controversy. Following his team's victory over the Texas Tech Red Raiders, Gundy was so disgusted with an inaccurate news article that he refused to discuss the game or to answer any questions about the game. Instead, he commented for 3 minutes and 20 seconds about the newspaper article. The article was critical of one of Gundy's players, and Gundy launched into what ESPN called a "tirade" against the journalist who wrote the story.

I thought this was a funny way for a college football head coach to act. My friends will always yell out a line from this triad and it's always funny. I also had a though what would it sound like juxtaposed to a soothing seemingly uplifting instrumental audio piece. I discover this song when I was watching an episode of the BBC Top Gear. The song is entitled "An Ending" by Brian Eno, which is an ambient space sound and very peaceful. This type of music was a perfect opposite to the anger and frustration of the coach's words. I think it works pretty well when the reading of the rant.

The voice is mine recorded on Adobe Audition. I used a headpiece microphone like the kind used for gaming online. I read the whole transcript of the coach's rant. At a few instances I was laughing uncontrollably and was able to calm down. The total amount of time recording was a little over fifteen minutes in four takes.

Next I edited the voice recording in Premiere because of the fast sampling and section cutting features. There was a bunch a sections I was either breathing heavy or laughing. Every time I did mess up the reading I would give a countdown and a pause. This allowed me to figure out where to cut the audio faster instead of re-recording a different voice over. Saved it in Audio only since there was not video. It was saved as a MP3. I then figured out I could do the same editing in Adobe Audition. I was able to cut down a sample of the Brian Eno song. Mix it with my vocal recording that I cut out a section of the reading to make it one minute in length. Exported the audio mix to a MP3 format and loaded it up to my Bengal space.
